This guide provides instructions on how to verify and configure audio input (microphone) and output (speaker) settings on macOS, as well as specific configurations for Zoom, Dialpad, and Slack. Follow these steps to ensure you have clear audio during calls and meetings.
Prerequisites
- A Mac computer.
- The specific application installed (Zoom, Dialpad, or Slack).
- Your headset or external audio device connected via USB or Bluetooth.
Important Note on Device Names: The name of your audio device in the settings menus will vary depending on your specific hardware.
- Sales Employees: You will likely see Jabra Link 380 (as shown in the screenshots below).
- Other Departments: You may see USB Headset, USB Audio Device, or the specific brand name of your equipment.
Part 1: Mac System Audio Settings
Before troubleshooting specific apps, ensure your Mac's global sound settings are correct.
Step 1: Check Audio Output and Input
- Click the Apple Menu (Apple icon) in the top-left corner of your screen.
- Select System Settings.
- Click Sound in the left sidebar.
- To check speakers: Click the Output button/tab. Select your headset (e.g., Jabra Link 380 or USB Headset) from the list.
- To check the microphone: Click the Input button/tab. Select your headset from the list.
- Speak into your microphone and verify the Input level bar moves.

Part 2: Zoom Audio Settings
Step 1: Access Zoom Settings
- Open the Zoom application.
- Click your Profile Picture in the top-right corner.
- Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
Step 2: Configure Speaker and Microphone
- Click the Audio tab in the left sidebar.
- Under the Speaker section, select your headset (e.g., Jabra Link 380) from the dropdown menu.
- Click Test Speaker to verify sound output.
- Under the Microphone section, select your headset (e.g., Jabra Link 380) from the dropdown menu.
- Click Test Mic to record and play back a sound snippet.

Part 3: Dialpad Audio Settings
Step 1: Navigate to Hardware Settings
- Open the Dialpad application.
- Click on your Profile/Avatar in the top-right corner.
- Select Preferences.
- Click Hardware Settings in the left-hand menu.
Step 2: Select Audio Devices
- Locate the Microphone dropdown and select your headset (e.g., Jabra Link 380).
- Locate the Speaker / Headset dropdown and select your headset.
- Click the Test icon (speaker symbol) next to the speaker dropdown to play a test sound.

Part 4: Slack Huddles Audio Settings
Step 1: Access Audio Preferences
- Open Slack.
- Click your Profile Picture in the bottom-left corner.
- Hover over Preferences and click it.
- Click Audio & video in the left sidebar.
Step 2: Configure Huddle Settings
- Scroll to the Microphone section and select your headset from the dropdown menu.
- Verify the green input level bar moves when you speak.
- Scroll to the Speaker section and select your headset.
- Click Test Speaker to verify audio output.
